Motor Vehicle Theft

The UMBC Police Department issues Crime Alerts to protect members of the University community, to promote safety, and to help reduce vulnerability. 

In accordance with the Clery Act, electric scooters and electric bicycles are classified as motor vehicles. 

Reported Incident: Motor Vehicle Theft

Location: Sondheim Hall

Reported Date/Time: March 4, 2024, 5:41 p.m.

Incident Description:  On 3/4/2024, an e-scooter was stolen from a bicycle rack outside of Sondheim Hall between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Safety Tips

Victims are not to blame. Perpetrators are responsible for criminal behavior. The following safety tips may reduce vulnerability:

  • Stay alert and attuned to people are circumstances around you. Report suspicious activity to UMBC Police immediately.
  • Lock e-scooters and e-bikes to a bicycle rack with a high quality U-lock.
  • Remove the battery if possible.
  • Register your e-bike or e-scooter with Parking Services.
