Motor Vehicle Theft
The UMBC Police Department issues Crime Alerts to protect members of the University community, promote safety, and help reduce vulnerability in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act).
Reported Incident: Motor Vehicle Theft
Location: Lot 23
Reported: March 28, 2025, 6:05 p.m.
Occurred: March 25, 2025, 10:00 p.m. – March 28, 2025, 6:00 p.m.
Incident Description: A black Hyundai Elantra was parked in Lot 23 at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25th and was found to be missing today at 6:00 p.m.
UMBC Police received two attempted motor vehicle theft reports involving Hyundais on Thursday, March 27th. The vehicles were found with a damaged door and steering column.

Safety Tips
Victims are not to blame. Perpetrators are responsible for criminal behavior. The following safety tips may reduce vulnerability:
Stay alert and attuned to people and circumstances around you. Report suspicious activity to UMBC Police immediately.
Lock your vehicle and take valuables with you.
Park in well-lit, highly visible areas.
Use a steering wheel lock or other anti-theft device.
While supplies last, the UMBC Police Department will provide a steering wheel lock upon request to individuals with a valid UMBC ID card.

Students in need of support can contact Retriever Integrated Health and the Women’s Center.
Faculty and staff can access support through the Employee Assistance Program.
Community members may report sexual misconduct, discrimination, and bias by completing the Office of Equity and Civil Rights Confidential Online Reporting Form.
