Completed forms may be submitted in person, emailed to Deputy Chief Dan Sexton at sexton@umbc.edu, or mailed to: UMBC Police Department, ATTN: Deputy Chief of Police, 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore, MD 21250. In lieu of a written form, individuals may also call (410) 455-5555 to speak to any agency personnel.
Complainants may remain anonymous; however, the Department encourages complainants to provide a name and phone number in order to conduct a thorough investigation. Once a complaint has been received, the complainant will be notified by the Department and provided contact information for the case investigator.
Accreditation Public Comment Portal
The UMBC Police Department is accredited (tier 1) by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), which requires continued compliance with professional standards. The established professional standards can be viewed here.
The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding our compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for re-accreditation. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The UMBC Police Department encourages the community to respond with information to support continuous improvement and foster the pursuit of professional excellence.
IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgement to submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.
